Project: InteraXon Project
Position Summary: We are seeking one Embedded Systems and Firmware Student Researcher to support the development, testing and integration of embedded systems and firmware for the InteraXon project.
This role focuses on firmware development, embedded hardware integration, sensor communication, device testing, and documentation. The student will help build and validate reliable embedded solutions for wearable neurotechnology, bio-signal acquisition, and connected device functionality.
Duties and Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To:
- Assist in developing and testing embedded firmware for project prototypes.
- Support integration of sensors, microcontrollers, and communication modules.
- Help implement communication protocols such as serial, I2C, SPI, UART, and Bluetooth/BLE.
- Assist with firmware debugging, troubleshooting, and validation using standard development tools.
- Support data acquisition, signal processing, and device-level performance testing.
- Participate in prototype testing, verification, and documentation of system performance.
- Contribute to technical reports, code documentation, version control, and project deliverables.
Key Competencies:
- Currently enrolled in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, or related programs.
- Highly skilled in firmware development for both STM and nRF microcontrollers
- Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, or similar.
- Interest in embedded systems, firmware, wearable technology, biomedical devices or sensor-based systems.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Specific Qualifications:
- The applicant must be a current/returning student from Centennial College.
- Applicants should be currently enrolled in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related technical programs.
- Preferred additional experience includes familiarity with C++, Python, microcontrollers, embedded firmware, sensor integration, Bluetooth/BLE communication, debugging tools, and hardware/software integration. Previous research, laboratory or project experience with wearable devices, biomedical technology, firmware development, or embedded testing is considered an asset.
