Position Title: Student Researcher – Electronics Design

Department: WIMTACH / Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services

Location: Unit 112, 305 Milner Ave, Scarborough, ON

Employment Details:

  • 20 hours/week
  • $17.64/hour

Start Date: immediate (summer semester)

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to electronics circuit design (analog and digital)
  • Schematic and PCB design and testing
  • Microcontroller firmware development
  • Fabricate custom textile based sensors
  • Provide update presentations for the research team

Key Competencies:

  • Analog and digital circuits
  • Experience with KiCAD or other PCB design software
  • Knowledge of embedded C
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills

JOB TITLE: Software Engineer – Backend Developer(Co-op Position)

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
Working with engineering at WIMTACH, you will be part of a team tasked with reviewing, analyzing, and programming systems, including encoding, testing, and debugging software applications. You will be working as part of a cross-functional, Agile team, where your duties may include development, suggesting new or innovative ways to increase velocity, debugging, unit testing, and manual testing.


REPORTING TO: Tenzin Jinpa, Principal Investigator EMPLOYMENT

DETAILS:
• 34 hours/week (Co-op Position)


Location: Milner Business Court Office Location/ Working Remotely


POSITION SUMMARY

The developed solution will go through threat assessment, rigorous testing, and secure hosting on local servers before rolling out to production/public. This position will primarily entail developing the Web Application. This will include the app’s initial design, coding, testing, and debugging.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Creating tables using MySQL/SQLServer Managing the in-house client/server software
Designing application programmable interfaces (APIs) Testing and debugging software.
Conducting usability tests Project demonstrations Writing project reports
Attending regular status update meetings
KEY COMPETENCIES

• Experience with C# programming.
• Experience with Azure cloud services.
• Experience with a backend framework such as .NET/.NET Core, Spring or Express

• Experience with a relational database such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, or Postgres
• Familiar with RESTful web APIs
• Knowledge of Git/GitHub
• A positive attitude, “can do” spirit
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Able to consistently meet development deadlines.


SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

The applicant must be a current/returning student (full- or part-time) from Centennial College.

Position Title: Student Researcher – Refrigeration

Job Summary:

The Student Researcher – Refrigeration position is a short term contract of 12 hours total and is required to start immediately. The successful candidate will research the appropriate materials, costs, labour time, and relevant regulations for the designing and building of a custom refrigerator that will become part of an automated kitchen project.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Research materials required to build a custom fridge
  • Estimate the labour time of building a custom fridge
  • Estimate the costs of building a custom fridge
  • Research the relevant regulations concerning custom refrigeration design
  • Report findings to the project lead

Key Competencies:

  • Knowledge of refrigeration loading calculations
  • Experience designing refrigerators including choice of cooling fluid and compressor sizing
  • Knowledge of relevant refrigeration regulations
  • Knowledge of current best practices in refrigeration design
  • Knowledge of refrigeration part suppliers
  • Experience building refrigerators is an asset
