Engineering in the 21st century cannot be imagined without the assistance of 3D Computer-aided Design (CAD) modelling. Yet, just a few years ago, this technology was only a dream of a few talented engineers. In the early 1980s, new software emerged that assisted engineers to easily and quickly create 3D virtual models of objects they wanted to create in real life, enabling them to conduct all sorts of testing and analysis virtually. Transitioning to the virtual space made developing and testing parts simpler, easier and cheaper. However, the software was extremely expensive, with the average CAD software price in 1994 being $18,000.

Everything changed with the release of SolidWorks, which altered the course of CAD software forever. The Microsoft-based nature of Solidworks enabled users to launch it on their general computers, increasing the accessibility of the software. However, to use SolidWorks correctly, it is crucial to receive professional training and assistance. So where can you get this training? Every last Thursday of the month, Dr. Pouria Tavakkoli Avval conducts his SolidWorks workshop assisting all participants with learning the basics of SolidWorks. This workshop aims to train participants from different companies to use Solidworks in creating new innovations, and also to prepare them for new work opportunities.

To enable all participants to succeed after the workshop, Pouria conducted a hands-on session, during which he created a 3D model as participants followed his steps. Also, Pouria enables participants to develop useful skills while modelling the piece to further educate participants on the software’s purpose and the effect of different tools and features. As the training session went on, participants became more confident in their approach to SolidWorks, which substantially improved their quality of work.

As SolidWorks is an all-in-one tool, Pouria highlighted its ability to enable modelling and idea generation along with stress testing and product evaluation. For example, when designing a product that could experience fall damage, a drop test could be simulated to predict potential single points of failure in the virtual setting without wasting prototypes. The variety of features available in SolidWorks enables engineers to conduct the whole engineering design process within one application.

SolidWorks is an extremely popular software among engineers, with over six million users worldwide. “Solidworks is one of the best 3D CAD modelling software to date,” said Pouria. Many other engineers agree with this assessment, making SolidWorks the most popular CAD software in the world. Such popularity led to major demand for SolidWorks specialists in various industries like aviation, manufacturing, medical, and consumer products, creating many generous employment opportunities. This workshop gives you an opportunity to realize potential of this software and plan to use it in your own sector.
